100 Paintings, Greensboro Bicentennial Book Unveiled by William Mangum
Greensboro, North Carolina (PRWEB) March 11, 2008 -- William Mangum, one of the most popular and respected watercolor artists in North Carolina, has just released his latest book of paintings, Greensboro Roots and Renaissance. This limited release, 105-page book celebrates Greensboro's bicentennial with more than 100 paintings of the city. During a special Bicentennial Show and Book Signing on March 29 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) at the William Mangum Fine Art Gallery, visitors may view 100 new original paintings, meet Mangum, have books personalized and enter drawings for special prizes.
"In this 200th birthday tribute, I have united fresh, captivating paintings with a bit of history," says Mangum. "This collection is my opportunity to shed an enchanting energetic light on historic points of interest and explore Greensboro's vivacious new growth and renaissance. From Yum Yum's ice cream to Honda Jet, it's a nostalgic and contemporary celebration of Greensboro."
Page after page, Greensboro Roots and Renaissance (http://www.williammangum.com/whats-new/greensboro-book.php) captures the active, diverse, enterprising charm of the Gate City, complete with writings by Mangum of his memories and historic perspectives of Greensboro. The release of this 105-page volume coincides with the community-wide Bicentennial celebration highlighting what makes Greensboro so unique. It features historical locations, neighborhoods, parks, Old Greensborough, commerce, faith and outreach, education, sports, arts and entertainment.
Greensboro's Bicentennial Celebration will be held March 25, 2008 through May 17, 2008. These dates coincide with the sale of the land on which Greensborough was founded (March 25, 1808) and the date the sale became official and was recorded (May 17, 1808). The Bicentennial is planned and organized by volunteer committees and will include a variety of events. One of Mangum's many book signings during this celebration will be at the Bicentennial Opening Ceremony on Friday, March 28, at 6 p.m. at the NewBridge Bank Park, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers Minor League Baseball Team.
