Best Selling Book, The Time Keeper, is Being Added to School Curriculum to Teach Teens the Importance of Appreciating Life Everyday
Raleigh, North Carolina (PRWEB) May 11, 2007 -- Best selling author Kevin Cropp is on a mission. He is saving teenagers in schools across North Carolina the pain that he went through as a rebellious teen when his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has been speaking in high schools and at Hospice seminars relaying the impact it had on a 17 year old son, as he and his mother tried to make amends during those tough teenage years. His book, The Time Keeper, is based on this experience. The novel, published by Copper Press Publishers, has received several awards for literary merit.
"I feel that in the final days of my mother's life, I was granted the wisdom to enjoy, appreciate and love the mother who gave birth to me," said Cropp. "I now know that losing her was too dear a price to pay for such wisdom and my hope is to offer this insight to others like me at not such a high price."
Cropp, a once rebellious teenager, weaves a beautiful and painful story of his real life adventure with his mother. His defiant temperament pushed him away from his mom. When she became desperately ill, Kevin realized the fragile tightrope that we walk each day with our loved ones. He wants to share his story with teens and young adults to save them from making the same mistakes that he did, until it was almost too late.
In The Time Keeper, thirty-eight year old Linda Wails has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has only one dying wish, she wants to make amends with her son, Corey. For years they have struggled with one another, but the time is now or never to learn what it means to be a mother and what it takes to be a son.
Such irony, that a woman should find her true beginning at the end of her life. Such justice, that a selfish young man should find within himself a pounding heart he never knew he had. Isn't the deepest meaning found in the greatest tragedy?
The Time Keeper touches on points between parents and their children that many people can identify with. "Dealing with many relevant topics for high school students, such as family conflict, reconciliation/forgiveness, dying, loss, goal/setting, and conflict with teachers and girlfriends, the story of Corey Wailes sets an example of persevering through tragedy," says Laura Stalvas, Advanced Placement English teacher and a Creative Writing teacher who has taught Cropp's book in her class.
The author's message is powerful. The repair of a dysfunctional mother-son relationship involves a willingness to risk and also the courage to persist in the face of anger and resentment. His mother's need for reconciliation gave her sufficient courage.
Kevin has spent most of his 36 years on the road, climbing, writing and taking photographs. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1995 with a degree in Wildlife Biology.
