Thought-provoking Novel Asks - Can Ex-Lovers Remain Friends after Marrying Someone Else?

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) May 7, 2007 -- Award-winning author, and former long-time journalist Michele VanOrt Cozzens tells the fascinating story of former lovers with a 20 year history, and what becomes of their friendship as they grow up, move on and marry different people, in the new novel, "A Line Between Friends" (ISBN 1932172262, McKenna Publishing Group, 2006).

"A Line Between Friends" is the passionate story of Joel Rolland and Noelle Moncada, former lovers who met in 1977 while in high school in the Chicago suburbs. Joel and Noelle are both married now, though not to each other, and they keep in touch through occasional letters and phone calls. One winter day, Noelle receives a terse, three-line letter from Joel asking her to sever all contact - their friendship is over. Hurt and confused, Noelle begins to muse over their years of history, trying to understand why Joel feels their friendship must end.

In the chapters that follow, Cozzens effectively takes the story back in time with vivid details and weaves together the tale of Joel and Noelle's relationship from their high school days, through college life and finally to their present-day families. With the severance of their relationship presented early on in the book, the question holding readers' rapt attention becomes, "How did they get to this point?" The answer to that question has a lot to do with Joel and Noelle's differing views on their friendship. With chapters of alternating first-person accounts, Cozzens successfully provides the distinct male and female perspectives on platonic relationships, and ultimately, the defining "line" between friends.

During the writing of "A Line Between Friends," Cozzens enlisted the help of her husband and other male commentators to be sure that Joel's side of the story was told with authentically male language and thoughts. While a "relationship novel" may be stigmatized as a women's genre, "A Line Between Friends" is an appealing story and enjoyable read for both men and women alike.

A seasoned journalist, Cozzens was inspired to embrace her roots and "get to the truth" after a real-life scenario, much like Joel and Noelle's, happened to her. "Writing this story was eye-opening, as it allowed me to transfer all my feelings onto two made-up characters with different backgrounds yet similar circumstances. I thought if I could solve the puzzle for the two of them, I could answer a few of my own questions as well."

About the Author:

She is also the author of two non-fiction books, "I'm Living Your Dream: The Story of a Northwoods Resort Owner" and "The Things I Wish I'd Said."
