Inspirational Novel Brings Positive Light to Stage of Life Often Ignored by Fiction

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 12, 2007 -- Susanna Sheehy's debut novel, Marking Time, shares the tender story of a post-menopausal woman who successfully overcomes depression by rediscovering her personal passions, attaining a new career and reviving her marital love life. Many women reach a point when their love lives and careers begin to feel stale, and the children they have cared for over the past couple decades are now grown-up with lives of their own.

Until now, most of what the literary world had to offer these women sat in the self-help section. Susanna Sheehy's debut novel, Marking Time, (ISBN 0978927109, Elden Publishing, 2007) was born of her desire to provide fictional reading for those in her age group addressing the specific issues this stage of life presents.

The protagonist of Marking Time is Victoria Vandor, a woman in her mid-fifties suffering from post-menopausal depression and empty nest syndrome. Victoria's discontent and lack of direction in life has been detrimental to her relationships with both her grown children and her husband. When she decides to plant a garden in her badly overgrown yard, Victoria discovers talents she never knew she had and begins to see opportunities for her own self-growth.

Marking Time is the first book in Sheehy's Second Half trilogy, about the friendships of three people in mid-life and beyond. The second book examines late mid life from the perspective of a career woman and the third, from a man's point of view.

Sheehy's poignant writing draws readers in to vividly experience the heartfelt joys and sorrows of Victoria's journey. Marking Time is a story of rejuvenation, proving that life is far from over at the age of 50. While Victoria regains delight and creativity through her newfound love of gardening, she also gains a fresh and exciting career, where she acquires valuable new friendships. At the same time, she learns to appreciate her old friendships and becomes closer with her adult children. As Victoria's life is transformed, she also finds herself falling head over heels in love with her husband, all over again.

"Just because we're over fifty, we don't cease to exist. In fact, life is really good right now. Women who read my book will be encouraged to enjoy it," says Sheehy. "It says something to younger women too: Don't dread this part of life, it's wonderful."

About the author:
Susanna Sheehy resides in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband. The changing circumstances of mid-life inspired her to leave a more conventional job and pursue a career as a veterinary technician, because animals have always been her greatest joy. Susanna also loves to spend time working in her own garden. Look for Second Half and Crossed Lines, the final books of her trilogy later this year.
