Novelist James R. Olson Releases Fifth Book "The Vagabond Healer"

Pittsburg, TX (PRWeb) March 27, 2007 -- Novelist James R. Olson announces the release of his fifth book, "The Vagabond Healer." The story is about a young man who possesses the power to heal illness with a single touch.

The story begins:
"Eddy Foster came into my life on one of those special days the mind treasured and kept forever. If I were able to revisit the past I doubt whether I would want to change a single moment of those magical events. Perhaps the joy and sorrow were meant to be just as they happened."

"The Vagabond Healer" not only deals with the joy of those cured of terminal illnesses, but also the bitter consequences when Eddy momentarily sees into a person's inner being and glimpses the dark secrets everyone hides from the world. This dark side effect of Eddy's touch breeds violence that threatens to consume Eddy and everyone he has come to love. Reactions to Eddy's power have turned him into an outcast, forced to live as a vagabond, never remaining long in one locale. Accompanied by his dog, Mica, he wanders the country. His travels bring him to the small town of Cranston where he meets someone who makes him want to stop running.

"In rereading the manuscript I found I enjoyed the characters and story just as much as ever. Also, I love the simple yet elegant prose," said Ann Collette, literary agent.

Olson offers readers a sample chapter at his website, www.booksbyolson.com, because he believes the story will draw readers in. The website also has details of a weekly drawing for a free, autographed copy of one of Olson's novels.

Because Olson became the single parent of twin boys shortly after his first novel "Ulzana" was published by Houghton Mifflin in 1973, he was forced to delay his writing career while he learned to be a housefather and 'mother' to his sons.

"There was a lot to learn about parenting," Olson said. "Before I was responsible for meal preparations, I thought a balanced meal was an equal number of cookies in each hand. I don't regret devoting those years to my children, but now that they are independent, I intend to continue writing as long as I can operate a word processor."

Since relocating to Texas, Olson has published a second historical novel, "Brother," two police action thrillers, "The Paymaster" and "The Pentagram," and co-authored a non-fiction book, "From Debt to Wealth." At an age when most people are looking to spend the rest of their lives in leisure activities, Jim is otherwise engaged. When he's not writing exceptional fiction, he is also actively involved in the marketing process, which required developing an entirely new mindset and series of skills, such as learning HTML and designing his own website. His writing awards include The Border Regional Library Association's Fiction Award for literary excellence and enriching the cultural heritage of the Southwest; The Council for Wisconsin Writers Best Fiction Book of the Year; and The Evelyn Oppenheimer "Oppie" Award for Best Book of the Year in the category of Historical Fiction.
