It's Here - the Long Anticipated Release of "It's Not About You" - a Book to Help Teenagers Deal with their Mother's Breast

Dallas / Ft. Worth, TX (PRWeb) January 20, 2007 -- Novelist Cindy Daniel was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. Now she's on a mission to tell every breast cancer survivor - It's Not About You!

A divorce survivor raising teenagers alone, Daniel heard those breath-robbing words no person on the planet ever wants to hear.

"You have cancer," the doctor said.

It was a terrifying blow. But she later found out that fighting cancer wouldn't be nearly as hard as battling the affects her illness would have on her adolescent daughter, Robin.

Having a close family and strong faith, Cindy believed she had all the support she'd need, and she didn't seek counseling or support groups to help her deal with her devastating diagnosis. But she found out - "it wasn't about me!"

"No one prepared me for what my daughter would go through when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I spent over a year, and seven surgeries, trying to hang on to my life, to suddenly realize I was losing my daughter to fear and depression." Daniel says, "I can't tell you the right way for a family to deal with cancer. And, honestly, I don't know if there is one correct answer for everyone. But I do know that I didn't get it right. Once I was diagnosed with cancer, my daughter's life was never the same."

The cancer was treated aggressively and Cindy was cancer free, but Robin began sliding into a deep depression, riddled with a guilt and anxiety that would eventually turn her into shell of her former self. "She couldn't keep food down, wouldn't leave her room, and would be up all night in tears worrying about my future." Daniel said. "Then she would be overcome with guilt thinking she could have done more to help me."

Ten years past the cancer, the devastating depression, and a miraculous turnaround, Cindy and Robin teamed up to write about their life-changing experiences, and the affects breast cancer had on their family. In addition to their personal insight, they enlist help from other young women who were in their teens at the time of their mother's diagnosis, and include a chapter from a psychologist who specializes in children's grief and anxiety. With input from these extra resources, they are able to reach outside their own experience and offer the reader a more complete picture of hope and healing. A book they hope will provide support and resources for teenage girls who are helplessly fighting their mother's breast cancer battle.
